Finding the Tool and Getting Started

The email marketing tool is not where you might expect it. From the main Wix dashboard, I had to click Marketing in the left-hand sidebar, which expanded a submenu before I could click Email Marketing to enter.

It is nested one level deep, and if you are new to the dashboard, you could spend a few minutes looking for it.

Once inside, the campaign creation screen offers two clear paths:

• Use a pre-designed template
• Or build from scratch

A third option appears at the bottom of the screen, a Mailchimp integration labelled as new, which lets you connect an existing Mailchimp account without leaving Wix.

If you are already worried that Wix will not be enough for your needs, that integration is your safety valve, and it is good that Wix surfaces it here rather than burying it.

The Email Editor

I selected a template and was taken into the editor, which lays out the workflow in a three-step progress bar at the top of the screen:

The live editing experience is the strongest part of the editor. When I clicked the footer section of the template, a Customize footer panel appeared immediately on the left with Content and Design tabs.

The element panel covers everything a standard marketing email needs: text, images, buttons, dividers, columns, HTML, logo, and video blocks.

The AI Email Generator

This is the feature I went into testing most skeptically, and it is the one that surprised me most.

Accessed via the AI Emails icon in the sidebar, the generator asks for your business name (up to 28 characters), business type (up to 20 characters), the intent of your email via a dropdown, and a campaign description capped at 250 characters.

I set up a fictional coffee shop called “The Daily Grind Coffee” and described a BOGO 50% off autumn menu launch.

A loading modal appeared, pausing at 50% with the note “Designing the layout,” which told me the AI was building structure, not just writing copy.

The result had a seasonal subject line (“Cozy up with our delicious Autumn treats!”), a proper hero section, urgency-driven promotional copy with a specific deadline (“offer expires Sunday at 8 PM”), and a secondary section about free Wi-Fi and seating that I never mentioned. The AI inferred those details from the business type.

For a small business owner who is not a copywriter, this output alone could justify the tool. 

It is not a generic filler. It is a complete, structured, send-ready email produced in a few seconds.

The one frustration is that the 250-character campaign description limit forces you to oversimplify complex promotions, and the 20-character limit for business type means longer descriptors get cut off.

Recipient Management

After finishing the design, clicking Next moves you to the Add Recipients step. You can send to all contacts, or target by Subscribers, Segments, or individual Contacts.

Segments are dynamic lists built on contact attributes and site behaviour, so you could, for example, target customers who purchased in the last 30 days.

The right panel automatically excludes unsubscribed contacts, spam reporters, and hard-bounced addresses without any configuration from you.

There is also a toggle to filter out contacts who have not engaged with your last five campaigns, which is a deliverability feature that protects your sender reputation.

If you are worried about ending up in spam folders, the fact that Wix handles this automatically is genuinely reassuring.

What Works Well

What Does Not Work Well

Wix branding on free-tier emails is a credibility problem, not just an aesthetic one. Every free campaign carries a “This email was created with Wix. Discover More” bar at the bottom. If you are trying to look like an established business, that footer works against you. You need the Essentials plan at $10/month to remove it.

The 250-character limit on the AI campaign description forces you to oversimplify. When I tried to describe my autumn menu launch with a BOGO offer, specific product names, and a one-week deadline, I ran out of characters before finishing the brief.

The 20-character limit for Business Type in the AI generator is too short for many real-world business descriptions. “Specialty Coffee Shop and Bakery” barely fits, and any more descriptive category will get truncated.

Wix Help and Support

I tested Wix’s support channels to see what kind of help you can expect when a campaign is not working or you have questions about plan costs.

The Help menu in the top navigation opens a panel listing the options available to you:

The AI search

I typed a specific configuration question about booking time slots not appearing for clients. The AI produced a seven-step answer within seconds:

The live chat

I asked a billing question about upgrading plans and whether I could test a higher tier before paying for the full year.

Wix’s chatbot, Helpmate, handles the first layer. It returned a competent feature comparison when I asked what the upgrade included, listing specifics like collaborator limits, storage differences, and marketing tools.

On the trial question, it said no trial exists and suggested I could “manage your subscription accordingly.” That is not a useful answer when you are weighing whether to add a $10 or $24 monthly email marketing plan on top of your site subscription.

Getting to a human required three messages:

The agent arrived in under a minute. Karol walked me through the dashboard to locate the plan features, then spent a few minutes researching the trial question.

Verdict

The fear most readers bring to this review is the same one I brought into testing: that Wix Email Marketing is a cosmetic add-on that will make your campaigns look cheap and leave you hitting walls the moment you need anything beyond a basic newsletter.

That fear is partially justified. The Wix branding watermark on free campaigns is a real problem, and the send limits on lower tiers will frustrate anyone with a growing list.
